Samtse: There is not road connection to Samtse from within Bhutan. One has to exit Bhutan from Phuentsholing, drive through India and then again re-enter from west. The inhabitants of this district are mostly Nepali-speaking Lhotshampas, but it is also home to the indigenous people, the ‘Lhops’.
Bhutan Food Products: Built in 1959, it’s one of the oldest factories in Bhutan and produces the famous Druk brand of agro products like juices, pickles and other canned fruit products.
Army Welfare Project Distillery: The Army Welfare Project distillery is based here. It produces various whisky, rum, gin and liqueurs.
Lhops: The small indigenous tribal people called the ‘Lhop’ live in a small region in the district. They are considered one of the original inhabitants of Bhutan.
Industrial area: The availability of Gypsum brought in the country’s first cement factory, Penden Cement Authority Limited which was run by the Govt. Now other factories have come up.
