DAGANA: It is in Central Bhutan but is one of the remotest due to connectivity. It is about 250kms from Thimphu and takes about 8hours to reach there, a quite place located up on a hill overlooking thick forested valleys below and mountains all over.
Daga Tashi Yangtse Dzong: This fortress gets its name from Jomo Dakarla, the guardian deity of that region. Dronyer Druk Namgyal built the fortress in 1648 under the command of Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal. It was the house of the Daga Penlop, the regional secular ruler of the southern region of Bhutan. It successfully defended against several invading forces of southern rebels and invaders from as far as Assam and West Bengal in India. It was damaged by a massive earthquake in 1897 and was rebuilt again. The ‘Utse’ or the Central tower of this Dzong was built for serve as a watch tower in addition to one just above the road. One of the main treasures of the Dzong is a 5ft 5in tall horn of a buffalo.
